Who We Are

BAY WOMEN ASSOCIATION NETWORK (BAWAN) is south west state of Somalia based non-profit making, non-partisan NGO which has been operational in southwest state of Somalia since 2018. BAWAN follows a two-pronged program, namely the socio-economic and socio-political empowerment.

BAWAN is registered in 2018 by the Ministry of Interior a Somali women’s rights organization to empower women and girls and advocate for their rights.

BAWA strive to create a future in which all women will be viewed and treated equally as men, in all aspects of life; civil, political, economic, social and cultural.

  • To conduct HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns
  • To promote peace and peaceful conflict resolution
  • To promote respect for human rights and differences in social strata
  • To encourage and assist the involvement of Somali women in the processes of reconciliation, reconstruction and economic development
  • To provide training for women and to encourage micro credit activities, in order to allow them to reach their economic independence
  • To advocate against the practice of female genital mutilation and gender-based violence
  • To promote the growth and development of women groups and associations
